A sheltered home?

Many times because we homeschool our children, have regular family and parent councils in which we discover and teach them how to distinguish between what brings safety and happiness and not, we have been told we to have a sheltered home.

We're not sure how one will define a sheltered home, but after reading Nicholeen Peck's "A Home United" paraphrase from "The Fourth Turning" we surely hope we do have a sheltered home...for we know we are not raising just any ordinary kids, we are raising a hero generation...a generation we hope will stand tall, some of our kids have already, when faced with that which destroys life as it was meant to be...happy!!!

"..."hero generation" youth are often more sheltered than (other) youth. This sheltering gives them strong core beliefs. Because the heroes know the difference between "right and wrong-good and bad-true and false" they notice that when bad rears it's ugly head they feel a need to fight bad for the sake of goodness. The "hero generation" youth know happiness and safety feel like because they have felt right, good, and true in their more sheltered homes, and right, good and true feel safe and create happiness. These "heroes" are willing to risk their lives to preserve and protect right, good, and true. "The Hero archetype is made, not born, and the making begins in childhood at the hands of parents gripped with spiritual confidence and secular anxiety""

So be it what it may...here at the Aponte we believe that the rearing, caring and nurturing of our "heroes" is Jacky's and Jose's foremost priority and responsibility. We also believe that happiness in our home will most likely be achieved based on the principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities...our hope is we can do good enough in the short period we have to teach and experience these principles with our "heroes".

Who is your hero?

"Who is your hero?" reads in our children bedroom on posters of different personages from the scriptures...Mormon, Abinadi, Nephi, Ammon, Alma, and others. Of course as his parents we hope that they would see us as their hero, but when they don't or we fall short of that, our hope is that they will look to the Prophets and those in the scriptures that have experienced what we have not...we know they will always find safety in following the Prophets...and that alone will help them see us as their hero for having showed them the way to where they can fine truth and light, the kind that brings forth an increase in faith and power to enjoy the safety we pray they will always have.

Hiking in Carrolton, KY

Nothing is better than a quick hike on mid day Saturday. Jose with some of the kids. It times like this that make life all that it is meant to be. Nothing else matters most...while Samuel leads in singing "follow the leader"

2012 Easter at the Aponte

Not only was it Easter at the Aponte on April 8, 2012 it was also the date our son Josiah returned to BYU-I.  We would not get to see him until July when he comes home for Abraham's baptism.  So it was a sad moment for all.  We have enjoyed having Josiah home for the past five months.  Nahiomi is also starting at BYU-I this semester, but she will be doing so online...we get to enjoy her home until the fall semester.  Easter brings to us all lot of changes...we're so grateful for Atonement of Jesus Christ and how it makes it possible for us to look forward to a time when we can be together forever.  Click the photo below to see all photos:
